Texas A&M Aggies host OklahomaAggies host #6 Sooners on Saturday
The Texas A&M Aggies (4-5 overall, 2-3 Big 12) face their toughest test yet. The Aggies will play the Oklahoma Sooners (8-1 overall, 4-1 Big 12) at 2:30 p.m. CT at Kyle Field in College Station. The game will be televised on ABC-TV. The Sooners are still in the hunt for a Big 12 South title, but they have to win out to keep hopes alive. They will face the high riding Texas Tech Red Raiders in Norman, Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater. The Sooners are coming off of a 62-28 win over Nebraska in Norman.
The Aggies are also-rans, but will face the Sooners before the home fans. The Aggies will be playing for pride and to protect a two-game winning streak. Aggie Head Coach Mike Sherman has hopes that his star tailback Michael Goodson will return from a knee injury. Junior offensive lineman Lee Grimes’ hand injury may be sufficiently healed to return. Sherman biggest concern is how to get his team to play four quarters. The Aggies have a habit of blowing half-time leads. Last week, the Aggies roared back from a half-time deficit to score 21 points in the third quarter against Colorado. Sherman was seen giving the Aggie a rather animated chewing out on the sidelines before the third quarter started. Sherman will be looking for new ways to keep the Aggies charged up against the Sooners. Oklahoma is ranked No. 6 by the AP and No. 6 by the BCS poll. They rank No. 2 in total offense and total defense in the Big 12. They lead the conference in scoring offense with 49.7 points per game. The Aggies rank No. 10 in the same categories. The Aggies are ranked 79th in the Sagarin ratings.
Once again the Aggies are facing a powerful Oklahoma team. The game has all the ingredients that Aggie fans witnessed in 2003. The Sooner dropped a 77-0 loss on first year Coach Dennis Franchione’s Aggies. It was the worst defeat in the history of the Aggie program. The question is: Will OU Head Coach Bob Stoops unleash the same fury at the Sherman’s team, too? One potent weapon the Sooners have on offense is sophomore Quarterback Sam Bradford. He’s a true Heisman Trophy contender. He’s thrown for 3,086 yards and tossed 36 touchdown passes. Runners Demarco Murray and Chris Brown have rushed for 681 and 665 yards respectively.
