Big 12 Basketball Tournament PreviewBy Big12-Fans Writer Josh Cline
Friday, March 10 - Quarterfinals 11:30 AM, Texas (1) vs. Kansas State (9) After taking Texas to the wire in Manhattan, KSU wants to prove they can pull it off this time. Unfortunately for Wooldridge and the Wildcats, they won’t this time. Texas is too good for them and we’re not in Kansas anymore. Dallas will be markedly pro-Texas and it will be too much for KSU to handle, I think they go down in flames. Texas 73, Kansas State 55. 2:00 PM, Texas A&M (4) vs. Colorado (5) This is probably the biggest game as far as NCAA Tournament implications go. Texas A&M needs this game to assure themselves a bid, while Colorado needs this game to get a serious look. Don’t be surprised if this is on the big screen at the selection committee meeting. A&M will have the home backing in Big D, but I feel that Colorado will play better behind Roby. It will be a great game though, and whoever controls the tempo will win in their comfort zone, I think it will be the Buffs. Colorado 69, Texas A&M 65. 6:00 PM, Kansas (2) vs. Iowa State (10) Kansas is the class of the North and it will show in this game with a win over the Cyclones. While the ISU backcourt will keep them in the game, they have shown to disappear against quality opposition at quite a few junctures this year. Kansas will win with youth behind Brandon Rush and they will pull away late. Kansas 71, Iowa State 59. 8:20 PM, Oklahoma (3) vs. Nebraska (6) Oklahoma lost their conference opener by one point to the Cornhuskers in Lincoln. Two things will be different in this game—the location and Michael Neal. This time the game will be played in Dallas, and while Texas fans might root against the Sooners, OU is also the closest campus to the American Airlines Center other than Baylor. Also, Michael Neal will be playing in the game unlike the previous meeting where he was out with injury. Neal means a lot to the OU offense as he forces a man to guard him closely on the perimeter which has opened up Taj Grey on the inside. OU wins this rematch, Sooners 69, Cornhuskers 61.
