Jayhawks experience turnovers at RB positionTop Candidates to Switch to RB for Kansas in 2008
With two recent RB transfers leaving KU, it has left us with 4 players on the roster listed as RB. I thought I’d take a look at KU’s roster and do a little research on who would make a good RB if they decided to switch over for depth purposes. Surprisingly, there were some pretty decent candidates on paper.
TANG BACHEYIETang isn’t currently listed in the 2 deep (at least on kusports.com) at SS, so he may make a good candidate. In high school he was a track sprinter, and once rushed for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns in a single HALF! He’d have ability, as long as he didn’t lose much speed or agility bulking up to play safety. The question is, can be be more valuable as a safety, where he has been called one of the hardest hitters on the team.
DAKOTA LEWISThe Redshirt Sophomore is currently providing depth at LB, a deep position on our team. He has nice size (6’1’’ 202) and speed (member of state champ 4X100 relay team in Oklahoma). He also rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 31 TD’s as a high school senior. On film, he’d remind a lot of people of a Jacob Hester (LSU). Good athlete.
RYAN MURPHYMurphy is currently a backup CB. Coaches say he has a lot of talent and potential to contribute at that position, so they will probably keep him there. Dual threat QB in high school with over 1,000 rushing yards and 33 combined TD’s as a senior. Very quick and agile.
MARCUS HERFORDHerford is a backup WR, a position of depth on our team currently. He has struggled to contribute much as a WR so far, but is obviously invaluable as a KR. Has great size (6’3’’ 210) although maybe a bit tall for RB. He was another dual threat QB in high school, rushing for nearly 400 yards as a senior. He may be to valuable as a KR to risk at the RB position, but would be interesting to see what he could do back there, being the athlete that he is.
XAVIER RAMBO / TERTAVIAN INGRAMBoth are also pushing for playing time at WR. Both are good athletes, strong, with good size (6’0’’ 195). They both have limited ball carrying experience in high school, but would be good enough athletes to make the switch.
*All in all, the 2008 Kansas Jayhawks should probably be fine at RB with our top 4, but I believe any one of these candidates could make a nice ball carrier given the opportunity.
